The Challenge
Our client, like so many others, loved the charm of the Westmorland neighborhood but needed a home that truly fit their family’s lifestyle. While a previous renovation in the 1980s had added space, it lacked the timeless character of the home’s original Tudor style, and it wasn’t quite right for the way this family lived. To help them plant deep roots in Madison for years to come, we rolled up our sleeves, embraced the challenge and got to work crafting a home that felt both beautiful and built to last
Our Solution
At first, we peeled back the layers of the home’s past, carefully removing a previous addition that made up over half the property. We preserved only the elements from the early 1900s, and the new addition makes a seamless nod to the home’s Tudor roots. The new addition is brimming with personality, starting with a custom-crafted front door. Upstairs, we reimagined the front room and added a brand-new staircase that gracefully ties the original home to the new addition.
The project also doubled down on functionality, including an oversized two-car garage with ample storage, an inviting mudroom to unpack the day, a laundry room the family actually enjoys spending time in, along with a new powder room. A cleverly designed wet room flows effortlessly into the heart of the home — the kitchen — making everyday living a breeze. Meanwhile, the fun lives down in the basement- finished to become an entertainer’s dream, with a cozy wine cellar (featuring the original front door repurposed for a touch of history) and a recreation room perfect for relaxing or gathering with friends.
We couldn’t resist a few creative details: reclaimed bricks from another part of the property now form the new gable roof, adding character and charm to the home’s exterior. Every inch of this remodel tells a story — a perfect blend of old and new, lovingly brought together.
